The Ocean in Love — mixed media painting with vivid turquoise, deep blues, and green ocean-like forms by Giovanna Ferrari

Transformative art to evoke personal evolution

My art is the manifestation of the transformative power of art, where negative emotions are liberated and transformed into new possibilities for healing, strength, and self-discovery.

Artist Statement

My painting process starts with total entropy, a form of intelligent chaos. To me, entropy is not disorder but a purposeful, generative force. What we call chaos is simply a germinal state: the beginning of something that is evolving into a new form. In this sense, chaos does not truly exist as randomness, but as transformation in progress.

Most of my paintings begin with an image, emotion, or inner experience that I want to capture on canvas. I put on my headphones, immerse myself in a feeling, and allow it to guide the creative process. My work is an attempt to translate the intangible into something visible and tangible.

I combine oil and water-based paints, allowing them to interact in unpredictable ways. Colors merge, separate, and create unexpected patterns, textures, and forms that become integral to the composition. While I guide the movement of the paint, I can never fully control it. Sometimes colors blend harmoniously; other times they resist one another—much like human relationships.

The final result is rarely what I initially envisioned. Yet it is precisely within this surrender to uncertainty that the work finds its meaning. Through a process of transformation, what begins as chaos evolves into a new order, often revealing something more interesting, authentic, and hopeful than I could have planned.

Portrait of Giovanna Ferrari

Born and raised in a small town in northern Italy, Giovanna's artistic journey began at a young age. She has always been drawn to creative expression through drawing, painting, and acting. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that her relationship with art deepened and became more serious, when time and stillness allowed her to fully transform and reconnect with her creative core.

Her painting style is a manifestation of her subconscious, where each brushstroke emerges as an extension of her inner world. For her, art is akin to meditation, flowing from the heart with an effortless grace that transcends conscious thought. In this sacred process, there are no mistakes, only divine inspirations that guide her hand.

Her works often depict scenes of natural phenomena — volcanic eruptions and apocalyptic landscapes rendered with a striking intensity that captures both the terror and the beauty of these events. Through her art, Giovanna seeks to highlight the fragility of our planet and the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations.
